OBJECTIVES
The SPIRECTS project – Spiritual practices and psychedelics in ritualized emerging contexts: therapeutic and sociocultural implications (2023.13311.PEX), aims to study ritual uses of SP for spiritual purposes, adopting a perspective that is still unexplored, also in Portugal.
Its focus is on the socio-cultural and therapeutic implications of such practices from the point of view of both users and facilitators, within the psychedelic arena and outside clinical environments.
Spirituality is understood here in a broad and fluid way, considering informal and non-institutional practices, with a strongly individualized component, while also addressing its collective dimension through the study of specific contexts of sociability organized around shared practices that we call "ritualized emerging contexts".
It therefore includes a community component that can explain both the involvement of the participants and the way in which any therapeutic results are perceived.
THREE AXES OF ANALYSIS
These axes guide the analysis of the case studies and the comparative examination of their implications, which are considered at two levels:
- Contexts and practices: associating spirituality and PS, representing a "meso" level of analysis, centered above all on group or collective elements;
- Trajectories and narratives: at an essentially "micro" level of analysis, centered on individual journeys that combine SP and PS, even if they are located within a group trajectory.
